In this LIVE, I’m showing how to properly cleanse human hair knotless braids while keeping the hair soft, moisturized, and manageable.

The hair shown is Burmese Kinky Curly 4A, and this install is 8 weeks old — proof that with the right care, human hair braids can still look beautiful after real wear.

Here’s the wash routine:

1. Finger detangle first to release knots or tangling before adding water.

2. Rinse the roots and scalp to loosen product buildup.

3. Apply shampoo to your fingertips and gently rub between the parts. Do not bunch the hair up.

4. Use a clarifying shampoo once every 6 weeks, followed by a moisturizing shampoo. For bi-weekly washes, use a moisturizing shampoo.

5. Apply conditioner to the hair, not the scalp, and finger detangle to make sure loose hair is not wrapping around the braid.

6. Use a microfiber towel or T-shirt to gently dry the hair.

7. Apply moisturizing products and style to your desired look.

8. Allow the braids to air dry fully.
